Delta Days 2013
St Jude Fun Facts
A Letter from the Philanthropy Chair
I’d like to start out by saying that the St. Jude Research Hospital will always be near and dear to the sisters of Delta Delta Delta. Because St. Jude is Tri Delta’s national philanthropy, our chapter’s Memphis location affords us with many unique opportunities. Rhodes College’s close proximity to the hospital facilitates the creation of personal relationships between volunteering Deltas and the staff, families, and patients of St. Jude. Through monthly arts and crafts events with patients at the Target house, a facility that provides long‐term housing for patients and their families, the sisters of Delta Psi are able to see the positive results of their philanthropic labors firsthand. New members are immediately introduced to St. Jude with an extensive tour: the highlight being the Patients Care Floor in the Chili’s Care Center (a project that was directly funded through efforts of Tri Deltas across the nation). This year new members were able to see the Rhodes flag proudly hanging in the wing, covered with our chapter’s signatures. Its inclusion stems from the fact that we raised the most money nationally for our chapter size. It is a privilege and honor that we hope to continue in the future!
In the spring we will be hosting Delta Days, a weekend dedicated to raising awareness, support, and money for St. Jude. Students get to participate in a campus-wide Powder Puff tournament, eat at a local restaurant, and shop at the Lilly Pulitzer store, with percentages of all the proceeds directly benefitting the patients! Our chapter is pleased to announce that we will be introducing a whole new event to our campus this spring: Game Day for St. Jude! In search of more ways way to bring St. Jude Research Hospital to Rhodes students, we will combine the fun of the Super Bowl with raising money for all the sweet patients! In the fall Tri Delta hosts its annual TriHOP pancake study break. This late night meal has become a campus favorite and once again brings Tri Delta’s love for St. Jude to the Rhodes students. Throughout the year our chapter remains active donating blood platelets, participating in the KIX 106 Radiothon, writing donation letters to family and friends, collecting dresses for the St. Jude prom, and so much more! As Tri Delta’s, however, we don’t just limit philanthropy within ourselves, but pride our chapter’s involvement in campus and citywide philanthropy! The Delta Delta Delta’s of Rhodes campus are dedicated to philanthropy but even more so to the patients and families of St. Jude!
